Disposable vs. Reusable oil filters

The name says it all...

Disposable vs. Reusable oil filters

Postby VTRamen » Sat Mar 26, 2016 6:39 pm

Here's an oddball question/topic for members to weigh in on if they wish. To my knowledge there are no re-usable oil filters available for the VTR250... But I may stand corrected on that. Anyway, if there was a reusable filter available, would you use it? My opinion is that I would be willing to try it out, but it would depend on how easy to clean in between oil changes, and the price point. I have heard that the level of filtration provided is similar or more effective than traditional filters.

I would not use a reusable oil filter unless it was the only filter available.

For the price of the paper replacement (about $6.00) is it really worth the bother to find a washable one? I have seen the fine mesh screen type for well over $100 for car ones, would possibly be cheaper for bike.
Is it worth it? Not to me, I don't do that many miles a year, maybe two changes a year.

I believe Scott is the brand of washable stainless steel mesh filters

There is another - PC Racing Flo. It was an ad by that company in a motorcycle magazine that got me thinking about these kinds of filter. It seems they are marketed to racers/performance bikes, so I'm sure they work well. I agree though, probably not worth the price tag. Some boast higher flow translating into greater HP. Not sure I'm sold on that. Regrettably it seems none of the companies make a filter for the VTR250.

They may not list it but the filter is very common
