What is the best way to remove old decals and scuffs from fairing?

For old decals, I use a hair dryer or industrial paint remover (heat gun). If it's the latter, be sure to use the "low" setting and be very careful not to over heat the panel. Heat guns will get hot enough to melt/distort the plastic. For scuffs, it really depends on how deep they are into the paint. Try an auto-body supply shop. They'll carry various glazing compounds that can be used to buff out the paint and hopefully remove most, if not all, of the scuffing. It may help to have a buffing wheel instead of using elbow grease. A body shop might even be a better bet. They'll know exactly what compound(s) to use to make the paint look like new.

Mark,

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles.

I'm not sure what sort of help you are needing.

If you find a good source for decals please post it up. I'm on the hunt too.

Folks,

Here is one place for decals. There are others, but these folks have supplied some for the V-4 folks and they have been good quality.

They don't currently have VTR 250 sets available, but if several of you all ask they might get interested.

Then again, the costs are not in keeping with the cheap mentality of most of us. A set from them may well be over $200.00.

thank's John, I have sent them a pic,as you can see there was a certain amount of pride in my ride, the new timing chains made a huge difference.this guy did some really strange stuff, like cutting through the fairing mount on the tank drilling a hole and putting a pop rivet in, removing the screw from the air filter cover. ripping all the locks off, and blacking the rims.

It saddens me to here of the damage.

I hope that you'll be able to restore it to your satisfaction.

so far $305 for 2nd hand parts, having some trouble getting side fairing to align correctly, does any one have alignment specs for headlamp - frame? I have stripped it down and corrected a couple of minor bends, but still a stretch to fit tank mount screw without pulling fairing away from visor/ headlamp unit, almost looks as though lamp unit needs to move back toward steering housing, I released the tank bolts but that's not the answer.

Can you post a picture and a simple description to help (me) us understand the above issues? I know once the headlight fairing mount gets bent.. they're really hard to realign / impossible.
