Brake light always on since lowering Brake Lever

Postby HondAh » Tue Aug 13, 2019 5:01 pm

Hello!

Hopefully not get busted as Owner of a 2011 VTR 250 please allow me a question:

After lowering my footpegs i have to lowering gear lever (without problems) and brake lever.

For lowering the brake lever i had to cut the threaded M8 bolt for about 6 mm (i think it was allready lowerded before at max. level, using full available thread way of the M8 bolt) After succsessfully cutting a little peace off and screw the lever to the wanted lower position (fits perfect!) my mate told me, that my brake light is always on.

Is there a way to adjust the brake light switch too? Its on the inner side of the little frame behind the hot muffler, so i am not able to see how the switch works. i only see/feel that two steel springs are there, but no idea witch one handles the switch.

Every advice is very welcome!

Thank you in Advance!

I don't have your bike so I'm not really sure.

But, usually you can reposition the switch for the rear brake ... IF it is a drum brake.

But for a disk brake, I am only familiar with a pressure sensitive switch which is plumbed into the brake fluid system.
No adjustment for that.

SO, it may be best if you can remove the muffler so you can see how the brake switch works.

If you can buy the service manual, it should help a lot.

Thank you!

Instead it is a disk brake, now i found a mechanical switch near behind the oxygen sensor. I will try to use a mirror to see how to adjust it

Looking at parts drawing # F-18, I think the brake switch (and wiring cable) are part #3.

From that, I guess that the end near spring #4 mounts though a bracket with a slotted hole.
The switch probably has a threaded body with a nut on either side of the bracket.
Loosen one nut and tighten the other to move the switch.
Probably 6-sided metric nuts but could be knurled circular nuts (use pliers).

Hope I guessed right.
