Reinstalling exhaust

Postby Janovich » Sun Oct 27, 2019 3:11 am

Hey everybody. I had a broken leaky oilpan and thought I might just as well remove the exhaust while I'm at it and fix it up.
Have a quick question about some bolts.

I'm looking here at parts 16 which needs to be replaced, which are supposedly the bolts that keep number 1 in place.
However, part 16 are just nuts and what I actually need are bolts. Otherwise there is nothing to attach the nuts to. More like the ones in the picture below as the exhaust was already installed like that.

Any suggestions for the part number or how to reinstall the exhaust?

All the best, Jan

What you need are called studs.
They are bolts with threads on both ends. They screw into the cylinder heads and the nuts are the #16 from your drawing.

See #23 on drawing: https://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oemparts/a/hon/506c02a4f870023420a2c45d/cylinder-head-fr

The rear cylinder also has 2 studs (same part number as the front ones).

Thanks so much for the quick and helpful reply ExTex77.
Ordered the parts and hope to have my exhaust installed soon :)

Extra note:
My bike didn't have the #16 nuts with those studs installed, previous owner must have put different bolts in. One of those even broke off and I had to drill the bolt out to get the exhaust off.
From what I can see at the rear cylinder exhaust there is one original stud and one replaced bolt as in the front. But it's a nigh impossible place to reach without taking the engine or rearfork out it seems.

The exhaust was pretty rusty so I removed most of the rust and spraypainted it with Zincspray and with heat resistant black paint. Think the bike will look at lot nicer now.

Thank you. Installed perfectly and sounds better than ever with the new gaskets.
