My 1938 Royal Enfield model A.
This is what I brought home from a trip to western NSW.

My Dad rode a 1939 model B which was 250cc side valve. He taught my Mum to ride it before they were married in 1943. The model A is two stroke. See the full restoration story and photos here. http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/1 ... post-83926

Since the forum is not terribly active, I thought I'd add some posts.

My first bike was a 1968 Suzuki X-6 Hustler I bought new that year for around $680. A nice one is probably 10 times that today. Great fun and one of the few 250's that could reach the ton downhill with some wind behind you. I really enjoyed it, but sold it after a 1600 mile journey from San Antonio to Chicago in 1970. Bruising to ride over that distance, but really well made bike. Loved the 6 speed and it had a separate tank for oil that was mixed automatically via a small rotary pump similar to the Mazda Rx7. I am no longer much of a fan of 2 strokes, however.

Gordon,

Thanks for bringing this thread back to life with a classic bike.

Back in the day I also rode the X-6 and it was special for sure. How I would love to have a good one today, but I haven't the coins to afford one.

I saw one go a week ago on eBay for $7500 in mint restored condition. That's the going price for the best of them. You can get a very nice one for maybe $4000.
