Someone should go set a new record!

Postby spotthedogg » Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:15 am

Here is an interesting article from Sport Rider, they built a Ninja 250 to take land speed racing. "A Mini '08 Kawasaki Ninja 250R - This Little Ninja Went To Maxton"
They set a record at 111.30 MPH, "But this little Ninja is (currently) the fastest 4-stroke, naturally-aspirated, open-wheel bike in the 250cc class."

I'm pretty sure some of you guys must have VTR's that will beat that and live nearby??

Hmm... it`d be close.

A few years, I remember my stock `87 VT250F hitting 175km/h (109mph) before I ran out out straight....

My current 1988 version runs out of puff at 160, but a more concerted attempt might have to be made!

Ours will go 118 mph with stock gearing but you need like 2 miles to get it there. I did it on the trip home from John's coming down from the New Mexico plateau.

Ralph,

Was that 118 indicated or gps verified?

I know that the speedometer on the 90 indicates high.

interesting, a bone stock spada or CBR 250rr should beat that easily.

Pretty sure my 100% stock CBR 250 goes to 200kph ( 125 mph) So with the right gearing it would beat it easily. With some mods to the engine and making it lighter would leave the ninja in the dust.

well, this has to be done in a mile.
If there is a bike out there that might have a chance, I'd say it's Spotthedog's current machine.

The record is at 113 now (production). but there are a lot of different classes. Production, modified - and breakdowns within those classes.
But, I think Maxton closed in 2011. http://ecta-lsr.net/maxton-1995-2011/history/

Another possibility, might be Bonneville Salt Flats, production chassis/production engine = record is 136.

How far away is Road America for you??
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Road+America/@43.7976205,-87.9973559,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x880362e846e377e9:0xc8b8b8a9f6914428!8m2!3d43.79751!4d-87.989963

It has a very long front straight, and middle straight and a back straight....you should be able to find your top speed here!?
I'm at 135 for my Superhawk and 150 (corrected) on my Blackbird.

Come visit and I'll make a point to be a good host!!
