1990 VTR250 Wheel width, front and rear

I've always enjoyed the little VTR, but never had the chance to own one (yet).

I'm currently own a 1987 Honda CBX250H.

Aside from the engine (loosely based on an XR250L RFVC), everything else is as rare as unicorn tears.

The bike is a blast to ride, super light (251 Lbs) and rated at 24HP (at the crank I'm sure). What I'm having trouble with is finding rubber. The last bike to run the correct dimensions was the CBX125 in Japan, and that supply is drawing thin; not to mention my front wheel isn't balanced all that well - I suspect it may actually be out of round.

I was wondering about using wheels from a 1990 VTR 250... Both single disc up front, drum out back...

Could someone provide the width of the wheels front and rear, outside of bearing to outside of bearing?

I believe the 1988/89 have the same rear as the 90, could that be confirmed as well?

Thanks for keeping the site alive. I remember when the VTR 250 was new and how heartbroken I was that I couldn't afford the insurance or I'd have owned one many, many years ago.

I'm pretty sure this is covered in the manual.

Thanks for the response John,

I'm the new kid in town - Manual? As in service manual?

For clarity, I'm looking for the measurement from the out side of one wheel bearing to the out side of it's opposing mate - I don't think I've ever seen that in a manual?

Wheel widths: For my 1989 VTR250.

Front (remember it has the enclosed braking system): 9 CM from bearing to bearing
Rear: (no measuring the drum brake nor the Cush & sprocket: 10 CM from Bearing to bearing. BUT there is a 1 CM flange on each side that adds to the a total of 2 CM width (12 cm).

The 1cm flanges are for the cush and sprocket on the left and the brake drum on the right; but does not include the widths of each of those.

For those of interest in using wider tires:
120/80-16 Front tire woks well if you raise the fender 1/4" & it make the speedometer pretty accurate.
130/80-17 Rear tire should work with it almost dragging on the chain guard.

hub width is the same 88-90 but the rims are different size. the 88-89 got the 16" front with inboard disc and the 1990 has a wider rear rim (3" wide for the 1990 if i remember well) , front wheel should be 2.5" wide, a 110/70-17 was a bit pinched on there.
