Help Are different year models compatable?

Postby shubba » Sun Oct 06, 2013 4:07 am

Hi there all. Mike from New Zealand.

I have a VTR 250 (89) model and she died today. The battery swelled and cooked the electrical system. Ouch

I'm wondering if a 88 VTR 250 MC15 would be compatible with the 89 year.

Welcome any advice.

88 has 520 chain and a different attachment of the countershaft sprocket; the engine is slightly different and uses larger thread spark plugs and the oiling is a bit different. Everything else is the same as 89.

89 - 90 have 428 chain. 90 has massively improved brakes, wider rear wheel and swingarm, and 17" front wheel. Everything else is the same as 88-89 except for the 88 differences noted above.
