petcock problem

The nut should be attached to the petcock, probably with a cir-clip to hold it in place.
The petcock part that should hold the nut looks pretty beat-up.
I'd probably opt for a new Chinese petcock.

Check the forum for members who have been successful with that.

must be some sort of lock ring on the big nut cuz i threaded it on (to clean up threads) in the upside-down position, and now it won't come off !!!!

looks like this tank is screwed until i cut off the nut. :(

I had a petcock separate like that, and it went back together with difficulty.

Nothing much to offer on getting the nut off the tank, other than the standard Liquid Wrench followed up with Crescent/pipe wrench/ViseGrips.

Cutting around gas tanks worries me because of the risk of explosion.

did the base\rim of the petcock separate from the rest?

yep, the nut came off the body. how do i get then attached again? if there's a circlip, i lost it. :(

btw, i was finally able to remove the nut from the tank. 8-)

no idea how to re-attach that.
If it could be welded back on, you'd have to make the sure the angle\alignment was ok.

hey, thanks fur the suggestion. u really think a steel nut could be "welded" to a pot metal piece ? :shock: i dunno, i'm not so smart, no smarter than a squirrel. :?

I meant the little lip of pot metal that keeps the steel nut on the petcock.
