1986 Kawasaki Ninja EX250R - E1

Hey! I just picked up another toy, an '86 Ninja Ex250E1, and only 4260 miles on it! It had been wrecked, and stuffed in a garage and forgotten about, paid $150 for it with no title... might make another good track bike!! the mechanical condition is excellent, only cosmetic damage to the fairing and turn signals. I found a left fairing half on eBay, brand new 'takeoff' for $100, and now I am ready to work on it this winter lol. It runs like a scalded cat, this year was the first, and had different cam timing with more duration, and 12:1 compression ratio. Can't wait till next year to try it out on the track!

Well, well,

You seem to be collecting old track candidates rather quickly.

Wishing you good luck and I'll be looking forward to reports later.

Looks sweeter than the sole GPX250 I had when I was importing used bikes from Japan. That one had gummed up carbs from standing too long and took an age to get running right.

Better looking than the later design. My buddy had one that i took up to an indicated 108 mph on the NY I-90. ;)

Yeah Scott, 16" wheels, but the fellow who came in 1st on a borrowed 2006 EX250 had 16" wheels too lol...
And it is the sweetest bodywork they ever put on a Ninja 250, IMHO. I think it looks really sharp, the 1st two years looked very cool!
Pirelli makes the Sport Demon in a 110/70-16, and 130/70-16 on their website, now if I can find who sells them... haven't been able to find any listings except in their site.

I received the left side fairing half today, and straightened the bracket to make it fit. Now, it looks much better!

It's a little rocketship, man! I just flogged it in 1st and 2nd, and it felt really strong... I bet it will have a great top speed, and if it is lighter than the later ones, well it will fly at the track. :)

I have been thinking on that, and Bing Images shows ones with a belly pan, though I can find no reference to any OEM pan EVER for the 86-87's... I am going to get a pan from 88-07 Ninja and see if the mounting brackets for those will fit... I am thinking they will, as the chassis and engines are the same. I will have to modify it anyway to enclose the bottom, and perhaps eliminate the top mounting holes where it should bolt to the OEM fairing of 88-07, but it is possible, i am sure. I have a fellow in Huron Ohio that has one that is cracked, and scuffed, for a cheap price... I will get that one, and repair it and paint it to match, first seeing if my ideas are correct, and then mount it up! I would love to have Air Tech make the side fairings in fiberglass, or I know a fellow who makes moulds, and have him make a few for sale... I bet there is a market out there for them as there are none available! Just some random thoughts lol...

And sometimes there is none available because there is no market...
